Re-enactment and InterpretationThe Militia is an historical re-enactment group. We attend events across the UK and Europe, where we recreate the past for the visiting public. Our members employ heritage interpretation and learning techniques to help engage visitors with the events and people of history.
Our group has three re-enactment identities:
- 3rd Battalion, 1st Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment: a battalion of Napoleonic Prussian militia fighting the French in the Waterloo campaign of 1815
- British Government Forces: an irregular unit of sailors and militiamen on a mission to protect the Crown from smuggling and piracy in the early 18th Century
- Nelson’s Navy: a Royal Navy party from the Battle of Trafalgar Period, 1805
Most of events are based around a military encampment, complete with cooking fire, camp followers, rations and guards. Visitors are invited to chat with our members, wander around our camp, and take part in our specially prepared activities, before cheering us into battle with the enemy.
