Education & Heritage

The Militia is about more than just historical re-enactment. We have a wealth of education and heritage expertise that allows us to work effectively with schools, local groups and heritage organisations to deliver quality historical experiences and activities.

The group is very versatile, with broad historical knowledge and can cover a range of periods: recent schools work has included days themed on the Spanish Armada, Nelson’s Navy, and the Victorian Underworld. We also regularly visit local history societies to give talks and demonstrations.

The development of costumed interpretation as a learning tool is an aim of the group and we have attended several history education conferences, where we have run awareness workshops for professional educators.

As well as larger scale re-enactment events we are keen to work with heritage sites to provide informal learning opportunities for visitors. Our range of historic identities, both military and civilian, mean we are able to provide a range of activities and events to suit the site.

The Militia is also available in any of its guises for film and television work.
